Kim Delaney (born Kim Delaney) is an American actress best known for portraying Detective Diane Russell in ABCs NYPD Blue, for which she earned the Emmy Award. Her other credits include her role in the drama All My Children Philly CSI: Miami and Army Wives. Delaney was the sole child of the United Auto Workers executive and his wife, who was a housewife. Her upbringing was within a household that included four brothers. Although she was a child with a dream of becoming journalist, it was not until her high school years that she began modeling. When she moved away from New York City and gaining experience in commercials at New York did she achieve her dream of becoming aspiring court reporters. Her first job as an actor was as an innocent teenager in the soap opera All My Children. Delaney's career has been filled with a variety of television shows and dramas. Delaney has not lived a successful or happy personal life. The skilled actor had to battle alcoholism, and has had two divorces. The actress lost custody of her son in 2005.
